WHY GO?

Here is what one of our anonymous reviewers said about the 2012 event:

Assen is often referred to as the Cathedral by MotoGP insiders, and it was a trip that I was looking forward to immensely, and my high expectations were exceeded.

The small town of Assen is closed for the Dutch TT weekend for the TT Festival. This event had an atmosphere the likes of which no other motorsport event I`ve attended could even come close to, and I`ve been to Monza!

The people were extremely friendly, and beer was relatively inexpensive. There isn't a language barrier as the Dutch people can seamlessly change between Dutch and English. Very Impressive.

I stayed in the De Bonte Wever Hotel, and I could not fault it on anything. I chose it due to its proximity to the circuit, and although it is relatively expensive, it offers fantastic value for money. You could walk to the track if you wanted to, but I got a taxi.

The track itself did not disappoint. It was all too clear to see why this track is generally regarded as the best place to go and watch MotoGP. I would recommend the grandstand at the final chicane or the grandstand at the first corner, both offered fantastic views of the circuit.

If you go to the circuit on the Thursday or Friday, a walk around the circuit is a MUST, as it is very rare a track can offer such great vantage points anywhere.

Merchandise stalls were basically everywhere, and I was more than delighted to spend ridiculous amounts of money on it as it offered far better value than the F1 equivalent, which is vastly overpriced.

Food stalls were readily available, as were drink stalls, in fact Assen had everything your heart could ever desire. I seen Bautista taking out Lorenzo at the first corner, and Marquez overtaking Iannone in the Moto2. If you are thinking of going to Assen, do not hesitate, as it will probably be the most memorable trip you ever embark on!
